Job Title – Tree Trimmer/Groundsman
Description
This position works as part of a tree trimming crew that performs utility line clearance work. Primary responsibilities include trimming trees, clearing brush, maintaining the right of way, and providing general maintenance near power lines in a safe manner and according to the systems’ requirements as a vital part of the maintenance program to insure as few interruptions to service as possible to our customers.
Essential Functions
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Trimming and pruning trees, clearing brush and vegetation, maintaining the right of way, and performing general maintenance of Cornhusker Public Power District facilities, often around and near energized electrical lines.
- Operating equipment and tools used in tree trimming work.
- Apply chemicals to control plant and tree growth.
- Be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Be able to carry out instructions efficiently and complete all maintenance tasks to the highest standard.
- A positive attitude.
- Organized and detailed.
- Good physical strength, fitness, vision, and hearing.
- The ability to climb, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop.
- The ability to transport heavy items.
- Snow removal.
- Mowing.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work overtime and work a flexible schedule.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Electric utility materials, equipment, and supplies is a plus.
- Computer/Computer Software.
Skills in:
- Working independently and with a crew.
- Interacting well with coworkers and customers.
Ability to:
- Use power tools, hand tools, chain saws, hydraulic tree trimming saws, rakes, and aerial man lifts, trucks, chippers, bobcat, skid loaders and hot sticks.
- Ensure all sites are kept clean and free of hazards.
- Perform an aerial rescue out of a bucket in emergency situations.
- Properly use safety equipment.
- Inspect equipment and tools and perform repairs and maintenance when required.
- Use the appropriate gear and observe safety protocols.
- Report any issues or safety hazards to the Foreman or other relevant parties.
- Speak clearly, communicating by two-way radio.
- Obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
Minimum Qualifications and Progression
- Valid driver’s license: Including (CDL) a class A with 0 restriction.
- Previous work experience as a Tree Groundsman or similar.
- Pesticide Applicator License is a plus.
- Post-offer drug test required.
- Post-offer physical/functional test required.
