Five principal kinds of land surfaces are found in Cornhusker service territory: rolling hills, valleys, plains, dissected plains and sandhills. Valleys and plains are predominate.

Climate

The climate of the service area is continental. The prevailing direction of wind is southeast from May through September and northwest from October through April.

The average annual precipitation is approximately 26 inches in the eastern part and approximately 25.4 inches in the west. Normal precipitation in July and August is below what is required for maximum crop development. Because of this, many farmers irrigate.

A normal year contains approximately 1,017 cooling degree days and 6,268 heating degree days. The normal maximum average monthly temperature of 76 degrees F occurs in July. The normal minimum average monthly temperature of 21 degrees F occurs in January.
