Electric Furnace

For complete comfort in heating, an energy efficient electric furnace is the preferred heating system. An electric furnace is inexpensive to install, safe to operate and requires little maintenance. It provides years of dependable service. Ideal for homes, apartments, mobile homes, offices and more, the simple design and compact size of these furnaces makes installation and maintenance easy.

Flexibility in design

Truly an “out-of-site, out-of-mind” appliance, designers and architects prefer working with electric furnaces. The compact size and simple design of an electric furnace enables it to be installed virtually anywhere in your home or business: in basements, attics, closets, crawlspaces or utility rooms. New or existing ducts can be utilized to circulate heat, and since the unit can be hidden away and requires no venting or pipes, it is aesthetically pleasing as well.

Low initial costs

Electric furnace equipment costs are low in comparison to other heating options. Plus, electric furnace installation is truly economical. Unlike other heating systems, an electric furnace does not require additional fuel pipes or expensive fuel storage tanks or venting. It does reduce materials costs and saves hours of construction time.

Simple, low-maintenance operation

Virtually maintenance-free, an electric furnace is simply designed and has few moving parts so operation is easy and inexpensive. These furnaces feature a compact central heating unit with a blower fan, and are easily adapted to central air conditioning and add-on heat pump systems. The variety of capacities in which electric furnaces are now available allows their use in almost any type of heating situation. Each unit has an average life span of 20 to 30 years.

Safety you can count on

An electric furnace is flameless, eliminating the need to relight a pilot light or bring hazardous combustible fuels into your home. Electric heat is 100 percent efficient, so there is no worry associated with venting toxic by-products of combustion. Use of an electric furnace also eliminates the potential for leaks of hazardous fumes or need for carbon monoxide detectors.

Supply and return air ductwork

Adequately-sized supply and return air ductwork are necessary in order to convey the porper quantity of conditioned air to each room within the home, deliver it to the room at the proper point and return it to the furnace quietly and without drafts. The material used for ductwork can be aluminum, galvanized steel, rigid fiberglass or flexible duct, depending on where the ductwork will be located or the limitations of local building codes.

CEO/GM Clay Gibbs announces retirement

On behalf of the Cornhusker PPD Board of Directors:

It is with both pride and sorrow that Cornhusker Public Power District is announcing the retirement of Clay Gibbs as the CEO/GM of our District.

Clay will celebrate his 32nd anniversary with the District in the upcoming weeks. He literally climbed the ladder from an apprentice lineman to serving as our CEO/GM for the past 14 years.

Clay exemplifies hard work, dedication, resourcefulness and intelligence. Under Clay’s guidance the District has grown significantly over these past two decades. Clay will be missed, but as is true with many pillars of public power, the District will continue its mission.

“It has truly been an honor to serve as CEO/GM of Cornhusker Public Power District since December of 2010.  I started my journey in May of 1993 as an apprentice line technician, and in May of 2025, will celebrate my 32nd year with CPPD,” says CEO/GM Clay Gibbs.

“I am extremely fortunate to have worked with so many great individuals over that time and sincerely want to thank my board of directors for their support over the past 14 plus years as CEO/GM.  Their commitment to employee/public safety, customer service, and keeping rates affordable is why CPPD is such a great company.

To the employees, your support and dedication has been unmatched, and I can’t thank you enough.  Providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric service requires long hours in some of the worst weather conditions, and every time our system is hit by bad weather, the entire team jumps right in and handles it safely, efficiently, and professionally – it’s just impressive.

I am sincerely going to miss being part of such a great company – but I am also excited to see all the amazing things CPPD will accomplish in the future,” says Gibbs.

Cornhusker Public Power District will immediately begin a targeted, nation-wide search for a new CEO/GM. We are confident that we will find the next leader, and fortunately Clay will stay with the District until we find his replacement. Cornhusker Public Power District remains committed to serving its customers with reliable, cost-effective electricity and providing a safe and welcoming environment for its employees.
